What is a temporary (temp mail) email?

TempMailPortal provides a temp mail inbox without creating a permanent user account. Temporary email—also called disposable, throwaway or temp mail—is a short-lived address that receives messages for a limited time. The inbox is separate from your permanent mailbox, but it is not anonymous or suitable for confidential information.

For a permitted one-off message, you can give the sender the temporary address instead of your primary one. The message arrives in the disposable inbox, while later marketing stays away from the mailbox you use every day. This limits exposure of one address; it does not stop the site from collecting other information about you.

When a temporary email is genuinely useful

A disposable inbox is the right tool whenever an email address is required but a lasting relationship isn't:

• Protecting your main inbox from one-off signups, downloads and promotional lists that would otherwise generate months of marketing mail.
• Optional newsletters and public resources where the publisher permits a temporary address and you do not need a long-term account.
• Developer and QA testing — verifying your own sign-up, password-reset and notification emails without polluting real accounts. See disposable email for developers.

When you should not use a temporary email

A temporary inbox is low-trust, receive-only and auto-expiring. Never use it for anything that matters or that you need to keep. Do not use TempMailPortal for:

• Banking, payments, government, healthcare, school or work accounts.
• Password recovery or two-factor backup — if the inbox expires, you can be locked out.
• Anything sensitive, legal or long-term you might need to access weeks later.
• Any misuse — fraud, impersonation, ban evasion, spam, or mass/automated account creation, which is prohibited by our Terms.

Temp mail safety checklist

• Treat the inbox as low-trust. Random addresses are harder to guess, but a temporary mailbox is not private account storage.
• Never enter passwords, payment details or personal information in reply to a received email.

How does disposable email work?

When you open this page, the API returns an address on one of the active mailbox domains. Mail sent to that exact address is accepted, parsed and stored briefly. The page checks for new messages on a short interval, so delivery normally appears after the sender completes delivery and the next poll runs; it is not guaranteed to arrive within a fixed number of seconds.

You can copy the address, check the inbox manually, choose a custom local part or delete the stored messages. Changing addresses does not make the old address private, and expired mail cannot be recovered. For a closer look at the receiving path, read how temp mail works.

How long do temporary emails last?

Messages are short-lived by design. Each one normally expires within 24 hours and is then permanently deleted. The Delete button removes the current inbox's stored messages immediately. Generating or changing to a new address does not accelerate deletion of the previous address; its messages remain until their normal expiry unless you delete first.

Temp mail vs. your real inbox vs. an alias

A disposable address is one of several ways to separate email, and each fits a different job. Use temp mail for a permitted message you can lose. A plus-tag such as you+store@gmail.com helps with filtering but still exposes the base address. A masked forwarding alias can hide the base address while preserving future mail.
